Pastor Merrill, as she prefers to be called by her flock, is eager to serve the Lord in this small seaside community after serving on staff of a large Bay Area church in California. She expects to find resistant attitudes to ordained women, but never imagines she must also deal with a sudden rash of suspicious deaths in her new church home.

On her own since the death of her husband, also a pastor, Merrill struggles with loneliness and out-dated prejudices as she works to revive the congregation of her troubled, possibly dying, church...but to make matters worse, that's not the only death she must deal with.
