Service is a calling. When one man answered, he would change lives.
Allan J. "Doctor Alonzo" Wind had strong views about futurism and fighting society’s injustices, even as a boy. He was an early Earth Day activist for environmentalism, and political corruption. In college he joined different causes including “No Nukes” and against authoritarian regimes. Despite finishing college with some pending incompletes, he made good on his promise to join the Peace Corps to help others. As he traveled through and lived in Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru, he found himself surrounded by peasant leaders, social movements for change, wonders and marvels; but also sometimes dangers – near-death illness in the jungle, getting shot at in a police-military crossfire, arrested by an anti-American colonel looking to make a statement, threatened by Nazi-influenced fascists in Chile and with risk of expulsion by a drugs & thugs U.S. Ambassador in Bolivia.
Yet his determination to make a difference in the lives of others drove him forward throughout both hardship and joy to awaken a spirit of selfless giving and purposefulness he could never have imagined. Now, in this gripping account, he shares his story of discovery and adventure among the peoples of the Andes. With stark honesty and powerful prose, “Doctor Alonzo” tells the tale of his own enlightenment in the hopes of inspiring the next generation to dedicate themselves to the principles of working to build a better tomorrow.
