Legends are occasionally based on fact. Sometimes, the facts have teeth and claws. 

Jaelle Rhovaryn and her bonded pegasus were just meant to do their compulsory duty in the aerial corps before settling into normal life as the unimportant royal. The idyllic archipelago in the far south has almost everything she’s ever wanted.

Instead, they find themselves among a handful of witnesses as mythic monsters descend on doomed civilians and soldiers alike. Leadership looks the other way, but the attacks continue. 

The millennia-old elemental wards have been breached. 

How did the twisted creatures bypass the barrier? Were they the reason the country’s ancient king erected it in the first place–and what did it really cost? 

Jaelle must decide what she will sacrifice–but the choice may not be hers for long. The beasts are coming, and they’ll slaughter anyone in their way.
