I had kissed her, told her I loved her, and that I would see her back at our home in Yucca Valley that same evening.

As the narrative unfolds, the author's precarious situation intensifies, and a sense of desperation looms. Heaton's struggle for survival in the unforgiving desert becomes palpable, and readers will find themselves emotionally entangled in his journey.
The suspense is relentless, and the narrative skillfully elicits empathy, making it almost impossible not to root for Heaton's survival against overwhelming odds. The author's ability to convey the raw emotions of despair and the unwavering will to persevere creates a gripping narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
While Heaton's survival may seem unlikely, the storytelling instills a sense of hope against hope, making this book a compelling read for anyone drawn to tales of resilience in the face of adversity. Prepare to be engrossed in a narrative that explores the depths of despair and the strength of the human spirit.
Was not the first time i had to go through something like this even though circumstances were different. I wish life did not take turns that hurt us or make us so sad but i guess coming through these things makes us stronger...i enjoyed reading what uncle Kevin went through and I'm so thankful it had the ending that it did. I love them so much even though I haven't seen them in years I have so many memories of them and Sunday dinners at grandma's house. This was a quick read and recommend it for anyone that likes true accounts of the soul...
Also because the author reminds me of my late husband a bit.
Fairly short story.
Good reminder to bring the proper layers of clothes and enough water if you are going to hike in a desert location.
The pictures at the end are thrilling and breathtaking
Thanks again
P. S. While living in SLC, Utah in the late 1980s, I was blessed to have attended the First Southern Baptist Church in SLC. I now live in a East Tennessee with my wife of 56 years. We are healthy and in our mid 70s.
I have pondered over many of Kevin's works of poetry with great delight, but he has taken a giant glorious leap into the world of nonfiction with this new edition. I have both the Kindle and paperback version. Maybe, I'm just old fashioned but holding the copy in my hand gives me great joy. The printed version also includes several pictures of the area and of the author himself. Of course, he was not able to take photos during the hike due to no cell phone connection.
