I really enjoyed this book about friends. K.R. Raye wrote about situations that people encounter every day. It deals with relationships, mixed couples, college challenges, egos, personalities, and how a group of students became friends and stuck together through anything they encountered. The storyline was terrific. You felt all of the emotions that the author wanted you to feel. The characters became real people. I cried.

This was a great read that was centered around college friendships. I enjoyed that friendship was the main theme and thought it was a good choice to place the romantic relationships in the background. Melody, Imani, and Lance have found such a great balance of school and friendship, always supporting each other through everything! There is a switch in point of views with each chapter which can feel a little quick but is refreshing as you don’t get fatigued by too many details. Throughout the story I feel one of the main characters, Melody, seemed to lack a little depth so she didn’t feel quite as real as the others. I finished it in one day as I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I can’t wait to pickup the second book!

****I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review****

True friendship endures all obstacles…right?

Lance, Melody and Imani are great friends and they would do anything for one another.

Melody is a hopeless romantic and hopes to find her true love in college just like her parents did. But instead of finding her true love she finds the biggest jerk she can, KEVIN. Kevin always says the right things and acts the right way when they are out with Melody's friends. But Imani see's things that others don't and she is worried about Melody.

These three friends have to be strong to get through what is happening to Melody. Kevin is becoming abusive and Melody is giving him the benefit of the doubt. But Lance and Imani aren't going to let things go so easily.

The ending of the story is a sad one but honestly I didn't feel bad for Kevin at all, I did feel bad for Melody and all of her friends.

I wish I could give this story 3.5 or even 4 stars instead of 3. I did enjoy it but I wish Melody was written as a stronger person. Even strong people can be abused, but she seamed so childlike I just didn't care for her. If Melody was a little more like Imani I think it would have been better. Melody seams to live in her own little fairy world.

With that being said I do look forward to reading the second and third books in this trilogy.

This is one of those rare books that bring out such a range of emotions it is hard to figure out which emotion speaks the strongest to you.
This is a book about three friends in their Sophomore year in college. They are about as different as they could be.

Melody is one of those super romantic girls, who thinks that they are going to find a fairy tale knight and ride off into the sunset.
Imani is very career driven and refuses to get involved with anyone, no matter how she feels about them.
Lance is a football player who loves to be a womanizer. Even though he clearly doesn’t respect the women he has one night stands with, he loves Melody and Imani with a brotherly and protective fierceness.

Things are going well until Melody starts dating Kevin. Warning bells are going off in Imani and Lance’s head, but what can they do? Melody would never believe that something was wrong with her prince charming.

Meanwhile Imani is having trouble’s of her own. She really likes Trevor and they are great friends.
She really can’t afford to get involved with anyone…but will that decision ultimately come back to haunt her?

The end of this book is like fireworks exploding. Anyone who has felt the effects of abuse will cringe.
I have been touched by abuse, but it was a family friend and I never knew the relationship very well.
Anyone else might be too affected to really enjoy this book, but I think it is an important subject.

Overall, this book was a great read! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to find out what happens to the three friends after the ending of this book.

The Colors of Friendship Book 1 by K.R. Raye is a 310 page novel. It has a prologue and fifty-eight chapters, not numbered, they just have chapter titles. It is the first book in the Colors trilogy; the second is Colors of Love and lastly True Colors.
The multicultural characters were very well developed. They were realistic (even trying at times) just what you would expect for college aged kids. The plot focuses on three best friend's journey and touches on all aspects of that time period: parties, classes, relationships (good and bad), self-esteem and so on. The story had nuggets of information in the beginning that was woven into a complex and compelling storyline that came together and climaxed at the end. This was a tightly written, life lesson story, all without ever feeling like I was being preached to. Kudos to Raye and her excellent writing for that.

I could only get through half of this book before getting so bored with the 8th grade writing and unrealistic plot. Some points were so juvenile it was like a young girl dreaming about what college would be like, or trying to write a romance novel. This was worth what I paid for it-nothing!!!!!

A story of young college students learning about their sexuality, dating, and falling in love, friendships and loyalty. The characters are black and white, male and female, and it tells of their trials and adventures. Probably more interesting for the younger readers who enjoy the thrill of sexual excitement as the author details their feelings.
Not something I would have chosen to read at my age, perhaps (I am eighty years old) but it depicted the story of mixed emotions, morals and touched on some issues of which the younger generation should be aware.
You will want to read the follow up book to see how these young people deal with the choices they made and consequences of their actions.
