Edge of Peril (Fog Lake Suspense Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,851 ratings

When evil descends like fog on a mountain community, no one feels safe.

After hearing about a string of murders in a Smoky Mountain town, journalist Harper Jennings realizes a startling truth. She knows who may be responsible—the same person who tried to kill her three years ago. Now Harper must convince the cops to believe her before the killer strikes again.

Sheriff Luke Wilder returned to his hometown, determined to keep the promise he made to his dying father. The sleepy tourist area with a tragic past hadn’t seen a murder in decades—until now. Keeping the community safe seems impossible as darkness edges closer, threatening to consume everything in its path.

As The Watcher grows desperate, Harper and Luke must work together in order to defeat him. But the peril around them escalates, making it clear the killer will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

It was no mistake that I captured this photograph of our local library as a police car was passing by when I took "Edge of Peril" to my local library so that others could become exposed to Christy Barritt's writing of suspense. You'll see why when you read and enjoy this book!

The main story line is predictable for a regular mystery reader, but the local and characters are interesting. The story's detaill and action keeps one reading with just enough anticipation. I look forward to reading another of her books.

I've read several books by this author and once again she didn't disappoint. The suspense is so strong you can't stop reading! Or at least it's difficult to do so. Great read. Strong characters. You keep guessing right up to the end trying to figure out who-dun-it!

Really enjoyed reading this novel, but feel that the ending was contrived with last minute details disclosed toward the ending. That said, the book was an interesting read. Recommended

I enjoy all of Christy Barritt’s books. They are suspenseful but with faith undertones. Recommend if you like clean and suspenseful murder mysteries.

Wow, oh wow! Hang on to your seat because this book will take you for a ride and you will find you need to breathe again and stop your head from spinning!
One thing I realized right after I read the first chapter was, NEVER read books by this author late at night!
OH MY GOODNESS! With all her books I never know who the bad guy is until the end. I think I know and then don't! WOW! She really has fantastic skills!
It's also the kind of book where you REALLY don't want to put it down because you want to finish, but then you also don't want to pick it up because you don't know what's going to happen! The story just keeps getting more intense and scarier, sending shivers up and down the spine.
In this story, we find Harper, who has had some pretty tough things happen to her and she is living with constant fear in her life. No one will believe her. She comes to the town of Fog Lake in hopes of finally putting an end to her fears. She meets the local Sheriff, Luke, who is dealing with lots of loss in his life too. He has a hard time trusting others, yet feels responsible to protect everyone around him. Their lives are quickly intertwined and they soon find they need to depend on each other if they are ever going to solve this mystery.
You will get caught up with all the colorful descriptions and words Christy Barritt uses from the very first page to the very last.
“Thick and pregnant with gray moisture, wisps of air played hide-and-seek with anyone caught in its mist.”
Now doesn’t that just send chills down your spine? It really sets the stage for the name of the town, Fog Lake!
This story has so much packed into it, it was hard to breathe sometimes. My heart was pounding and my mind was going fast trying to figure out how it was all going to end.
If you LOVE mystery, suspense, and action, you will love this book!
This story will keep you on the edge of your seat until you finish it. Be prepared to not put it down, even to eat or sleep!
I received this book from the author to give an honest review. All opinions are my own. I highly recommend you pick this book up!

This was my introduction to this author and I wasn't disappointed. The story was intriguing and shrouded in mystery. The plot was great and the setting quite perfect. There was an eeriness throughout the entire book. The only thing that I was somewhat disappointed in was the chemistry or lack thereof between the protagonist and her sheriff. It was lacking to say the least. Otherwise it was a great read

Christy Barritt again showed her expertise in writing a suspenseful and enthralling mystery. Given the history of Fog Lake and the closeness of a small community, the novel reminds one of the growing pains in any situation. Through these personal growing pains, each character developed his/ her strength, trust among other attributes in their own life which made him/her a stronger person building their character.
I would definitely recommend this book as it helped me put the past in the past and forgive those whom caused conflicts in my life.

A well-told story with great characters and just enough romance ( but not too much, which is the way I like it)
I appreciate that it is a clean read, and contains no grammatical/spelling errors that I noticed.
I definitely will be looking out for book 2!

2.0 out of 5 stars substance

Christy just turns them out for the money I think. She has no substance to the books that she writes. If she would take time like Elizabeth Camden and Jody Hedlund and do some research into her books I think they would be more interesting to read. But they are all the same. Shame that some authors have no idea how to write a good book. Very few actually do the research to make an interesting read. You need to think less of the money and more to what you dish out to the readers... e.r.
